Greater Lawrence Family Health Center
On November 5, 2009 GraceCom was proud to be a sponsor of the Making A Difference event for the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center. After completing new system installs in 9 locations, we are pleased to be able to continue this partnership and help the GLFHC meet their goals.
GLFHC makes a difference by offering preventative care, health education, integrated clinical and social services, and affordable quality medical care. Their programs are designed to address the needs in the community and eliminate existing health disparities. They are changing lives for the better by:
- Improving prenatal care by 30% in just three years.
- Decreasing student pregnancies by 43% and school dismissals due to illness by 30%
- Eliminating the threat of HIV and AIDS. For more than a decade, not one HIV+ baby has been born in Lawrence and the AIDS rate is dropping faster in Lawrence than statewide.
- Helping Latinos manage their diabetes more effectively. In fact, 73% of Lawrence's Latinos have had a hemoglobin A1C test in the past year.
- Providing health care for more than 800 of the region's homeless. The Center is the only facility between Boston, MA and Portland, ME to offer such services.
- Operating the nation's first fully accredited family medicine residency program within a community health center.
Mission
The mission of the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center is to improve and maintain the health of individuals and families in the Merrimack Valley by providing a network of high quality, comprehensive health care and services and by training health care professionals who can respond to the needs of a culturally diverse population.
Achievements
Daily, GLFHC is challenged to provide quality care to a population that lags behind the rest of Massachusetts on virtually all health status indicators. GLFHC's programs are structured to eliminate these health disparities through effective integration of its clinical and social services.
